VisitPITTSBURGH Launches BURGH101 Promotion
Savings pass created in partnership with area businesses helps college students and families explore Pittsburgh during ‘Welcome Week’ and beyond
PITTSBURGH – VisitPITTSBURGH officially launched its new BURGH101 promotion just in time for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year.
The promotion, slated to run through September, aims to introduce college students and their families to all Pittsburgh has to offer via a savings badge that will give them access to discounts and promotions on admission, food, beverages and more at participating attractions and businesses around the city. Starting today, incoming students can sign up for their badge at VisitPITTSBURGH.com, and it will be shipped to them the week of Aug. 14.
“College can be some of the most exciting years of your life, and Pittsburgh is a great college town, welcoming more than 80,000 college and graduate students every year,” said VisitPITTSBURGH President & CEO Jerad Bachar. “We designed this offering to help Pittsburgh’s new and returning college students feel welcome, and to encourage them to explore the region beyond campus to get to know everything our city has to offer.”
VisitPITTSBURGH will also give away a BURGH101 Retro-Starter Kit to the first 50 students that enroll in the program. The starter kit will include a collectible tin lunch box, belt bag, bucket hat, adhesive phone wallet and the BURGH101 badge.
Advertising efforts will have a largely digital focus with social promotions integrated throughout, with a two-fold goal of engaging with college students attending Pittsburgh universities and incentivizing parents to extend their stay and explore the city. The campaign targets college students in key drive-in academic feeder markets, including Baltimore, Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, Erie, Harrisburg, Johnston/Altoona, Morgantown, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
The program has been widely endorsed by area universities, including presenting sponsor Point Park University.
